Thanks to the AMAZING world of Amazon Prime, I've been enabled to make more online purchases while saving on shipping costs. Enter the Tangle Teezer: a high-rated, Cosmopolitan Beauty Award winner for 2010.
I was skeptical at first, debating whether I should just save my $$$ for a Mason Pearson boar brush or this, and I couldn't help but cheap out and get this first. Just LOOK AT IT! Ergonomically designed, it fits in your hand PERFECTLY. It comes with a cover to protect the delicate teeth of this brush, and they come in different cool colors! I opted for the compact version to throw in my bag for travel, and I'm glad I got it.
It really does de-tangle, but since I have thick hair, I have to separate my hair into sections. I don't know how these delicate little plastic teeth do it, but they do not require a tug-of-war to get the knots and tangles out. I just have to get used to the idea of using something that looks like a toy brush from a doll set to comb my hair... and the fact that I'm also holding a brush through my hair as though I were brushing a horse's behind... but nevermind that. It works, and I'm a sucker for all things designed with ergonomics in mind. It's like the EOS lip balm spheres that come in the flavors that are actually great quality: you want to hold them. They're precious, but functional. Designed so that they aren't so easily to misplace. You can tell a lot of thought went into something so simple, and when you hold it, you form a bond/relationship with that item. That is how I feel about the Tangle Teezer.
It's only shortcoming is that it's a little bulky for those of you that wish to take it with you to travel. It's not at all like those collapsible fold-out brushes, but this is also way more gentle on your hair than other conventional combs or brushes out there on the market.
I will still save for a Mason Pearson boar brush though, since this does nothing to polish your hair... I think it would make a great gift, and they come in a variety of different styles as well, such as the original Tangle Teezer, and the one that was made with little girls in mind shaped like a flower pot. I believe you can find these at Sally's Beauty Supply, and they're also highly recommended for wig/weaves as well. Try it out! =)

Very cool!
Hope you make one with a handle as my brush (tangle) always slips out my hand...
I have thick AND curly hair that has been a literal pain to comb or brush all my life. This brush has been a lifesaver. Something that actually works!
@ dolphin: Haha, they do get quite slippery when wet! It still manages to tame my thick hair when wet with ease! Even w/o a handle, at least make it with a rubberized grip on one side... that would make a world of difference... =)
